Respect Week Events, 25th to 29th January
Lunch and Learn
Thursday 28th January, St James House, Conference Room: 12.00pm to 1.00pm.
Back by popular demand ….
come and watch a short film titled ‘Blue eyes, Brown eyes, a class divided’. This powerful film is about an Iowa schoolteacher who, the day after Martin Luther King Jr. was murdered in 1968, gave her third-grade students a first-hand experience in the meaning of discrimination. This is the story of what she taught the children, and the impact that lesson had on their lives.
You can also view the film at our local A4e Skills centres. Contact your Assessor to find out more.
If you can’t make any of the planned – you can watch the film in your own time via the following link:

Random Acts of Kindness
Throughout the week (and beyond!)
A random act of kindness is a selfless act performed by a person or persons wishing to either assist or cheer up an individual. There will generally be no reason other than to make people smile, or be happier. Either spontaneous or planned in advance, random acts of kindness are encouraged by various communities and countries.
The concept of forming a group specifically to spread kindness is a relatively new phenomenon. In 1996, the Small Kindness Movement in Japan organised a conference in Tokyo, by inviting like-minded individuals from around the world who had started kindness movements in their own countries to attend. A second conference was held in 1997 and the outcome was the formation of the World Kindness Movement.
Acts of Kindness can be performed at any time and all of the time.
Why not organise a Random Acts of Kindness where you work.
Some individual Acts of Kindness.
- Give your full attention and simply listen
- Stop and say hello – get to know someone new at work
- Refrain from negative talk – concentrate on the positive
- Say something nice to everyone you meet today
- Smile
- Display inspirational poems or thoughts for all to enjoy
- Volunteer at a charity or community group of your choice for the day – research a charity or community group on FSI or local area. Think about a fund event you might be able to organise or just help them out for the day.
- Make coffee/tea for work colleagues at your placement
- Help out with the not so pleasant tasks at work
